Worms, June 10, 2026 – The discussion surrounding a nationwide Germany App is gaining momentum. Federal Minister for Digital Affairs Karsten Wildberger and Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Bärbel Bas expect several years of development and planning before such a platform can become a reality. Technology entrepreneur Ismet Koyun from Worms believes this timeline is avoidable:
Ismet Koyun, Founder and CEO of the technology company KOBIL:
The challenge is not the development of technologies. These already exist. As does the expertise. Right here in Germany. We already possess the technical capabilities to bring together key digital citizen services, digital identities, secure communication, document management, and digital payment functions within a single platform.
Why do we spend years discussing roadmaps and committees while other countries have long since taken action? Germany has strong medium-sized businesses, outstanding engineers, and innovative companies. We should have the courage to rely on our own solutions.
For decades, KOBIL has been developing technologies for digital identity, secure communication, and digital platforms. With solutions such as Smart City platforms and the Trusted Business SuperApp Platform mPower, we already have many of the essential building blocks that would be required for a Germany App.
Digital sovereignty will become one of Europe's most decisive competitive advantages in the future. The question is not whether Germany is capable of digitalization. The question is whether we are prepared to trust in our own capabilities.
The discussion about a Germany App is part of a broader development. In the age of artificial intelligence, trust is becoming the decisive resource. Digital identities, secure communication, and transparent digital processes form the foundation that will enable people, businesses, and public institutions to work securely with AI systems in the future. Many people talk about computing power. I talk about trust. Trust will be the most important currency of the digital world.
I invite representatives from politics, public administration, and industry to give greater consideration to existing technologies and solutions developed by German SMEs in the debate on digital sovereignty. Germany does not need to reinvent everything. Much of what is needed already exists. We should have the courage to use it.
